In this engaging, hands-on engineering camp sponsored by 4-H and Aqua Africa, youth entering 6-8th grade will work as individuals and teams to learn engineering skills required to build an African hut in the village of New Maiwut. Huts will be using off-grid technology to produce energy for power and water transportation.
Youth will learn about various building materials, 3D Modeling, building an African hut, life in South Sudan, solar power, water transportation and the importance of sustainability. Concepts covered during camp will build upon the previous class's content.
Each day campers will earn points by participating in activities to secure one of 5 spots on your organization's competition team. Those 5 selected youth will then compete against other teams to first survive, then thrive in the community of New Maiwut! The winning team will receive a $50 gift card for each team member, along with $1000 in STEM programming funds for their organization!
The award-winning curriculum was developed by UNL Extension educators. It requires sponsoring youth organizations to host the summer camp at their location. Curriculum may be used by any 4-H or other organization In Nebraska for 2024 summer cycle.
