Amateur Radio Techician License Class

An offering by Bellevue Amateur Radio Club

Bellevue Amateur Radio Club (BARC) (http://bellevuearc.org) will hold a Technician Class amateur radio license course over three Saturday's (April 20th & 27th, and May 4th). The class will run from 8:00am to 4:00pm each day.  The class will be held at Midlands Hospital (11111 S. 84th St, Papillion NE).  There will be a break for lunch.  Unfortunately, there is no on-site food service on Saturday.

If you’d like to register for the class please send your name, email address and cell phone number to Dennis Mitchel at:  kc0ykn@cox.net.

There is no fee to attend the class.  The book we’re using is the ARRL Ham Radio License Manual (5th Edition) (https://www.amazon.com/ARRL-Ham-Radio-License-Manual/dp/1625951558).  We recommend each student have a copy of the license manual, but it's not required to attend the class.

The test questions (and answers) for Amateur Radio license exams are public.  The ARRL Ham Radio License Manual includes a copy of the questions and answers.  You can also take sample tests online at http://arrlexamreview.appspot.com/.  The online sample tests use real questions from the official test question pool and are an excellent way to prepare for the formal exam.  I recommend you register for a free account on that site and get a feel for what the test looks like.

A regularly scheduled Amateur Radio license testing session will take place at Midlands Hospital in Papillion on Saturday, May 11th at 1:00pm.  The class was scheduled to take advantage of the test session.  There is a $15 fee to take the Amateur Radio license exam.  None of that fee goes to the club.  After you pass the test the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) will charge a $35 fee for issuance of your amateur radio license.

If you’re interested in learning more about Amateur Radio before the class the ARRL web site (http://www.arrl.org) is a good place to look around.  You’re also welcome to attend the next Bellevue Amateur Radio Club meeting on Thursday, April 18th at 7:30pm.  Directions are on our web site.

In preparation for the class I recommend you watch “Discovering Amateur Radio” on YouTube:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ivUMIADFSDw.  It’s a 24 minute introduction to Amateur Radio you might find interesting.  The YouTube video also includes an 8 minute slide show of ways radio is used in the world around us.

Please let me know if you have any questions.  I’m sure there are topics I’ve forgotten to cover.
